BIOGRAPHY
Claude Reynier, artist painter, was born
August 7, 1942 in the fishing port of Sète on the
Mediterranean. His talent and his desire to draw and paint
were apparent at an early age, and at the age of 14 he
attended l’Ecole des Beaux Arts de Montpellier.
It was here, at the age of 21 that he was awarded “Le
Premier Prix de Peinture des Beaux Arts de France”,
for a still life painting entitled “Feminine Accessories”.

Honours for Painting
It is thanks to the art classes at l'École Régionale
des Beaux Arts de Montpellier that Claude was awarded “Le
Premier Prix de Peinture des Beaux Arts de France”,
in Paris. The high artistic and educational values taught
at the college during this time (1959 – 1964) under
the leadership of the college Director Camille Descossy
were well known. Other tutors such as Professor Bessil for
decoration and Professor G. Dezeuze for drawing, added to
Claude’s experience. Years of hard study at the college
in Montpellier were deemed worthwhile when Claude was awarded
“le Certificat d’Aptitude à une Formation
Artistique Supérieure”.

Palavas-Les-Flots
For a long time, for various reasons, Claude was not able
to fully follow his passion for art. However, with changing
circumstances in 1982, he settled in Palavas-Les-Flots and
returned to painting. It was then Claude began to organise
workshops and painting classes, teaching the skills and techniques
of oil, watercolours, acrylic, gouache, charcoal and pastel.
Along the way Claude Reynier also had many art exhibitions,
showing his works to audiences throughout France. In 1985,
amongst other distinctions and awards, Claude was also presented
with the Gold Medal at the Exhibition “Les Peintres
dans Palavas”.

It was also during this time that Claude
Reynier organised many different art classes and workshops,
in the Jura and Doubs departments, and helped teach over
2,000 students painting and drawing techniques. Many of
the students, building upon their experiences at Claude
Reynier Workshops, now have their own exhibitions throughout
France and abroad. He also helped with school activities,
directing the large wall fresco on “la Place du Forum”
at Maurin-Lattes (near Montpellier), and helped conceive
educational projects for schools.

Margon
Studio
The new studio in Margon is used as the base for the art
classes held during the summer months.
The classes are aimed at both beginner and experienced alike
– anyone interested in improving the artistic skills.
In addition to teaching, Claude Reynier still has time to
follow his passion in life, creating works of art in watercolours
and oils, as well as sketching. Many of the paintings can
be viewed at Palavas or, during the summer months, at the
studio in Margon. Margon is a beautiful and historic village,
close to Pézenas, and the studio is situated close
to the Château.
